Threads of Innovation - Then. Now. Next. symposium @ Textiel Musuem, Tilburg, the Netherlands September 17

Reconstructing Heritage keynote considers the innovative ways that artists use constructed textiles to recover lost histories, reconsider cultural appropriation and question definitions of authenticity. This keynote will address the repatriation of Paracas tapestries to Peru by Stockholm-based Oscar Lara, exhibition strategies of weavings from the Atlas mountains of Morocco by the Spanish artist Teresa Lanceta, references to modernist women designers by Portuguese artist Leonor Antunes, the place of craft in post-Apartheid South Africa by Igshaan Adams and the labour of Norwegian workhouse weavers by Franz Petter Schmidt.
